Chesterfield

The town received its market charter in the year 1204 from King John and around two hundred and fifty stalls can still be found in the town centre every Monday, Friday and Saturday. A flea market takes place each Thursday.

Chesterfield benefited greatly from the building of the Chesterfield Line - part of the Derby to Leeds railway (North Midland Line), which was begun in 1837 by George Stephenson. During its construction, a sizeable seam of coal was discovered during the construction of the Clay Cross Tunnel. This and the local ironstone were promptly exploited by Stephenson who set up a company in Clay Cross to trade in the minerals.

Holiday in Spain

Spain is a wonderful country to spend your vacations. The two main cities in Spain are Barcelona and Madrid. They are filled with beauty. If there is anyone put there who wants to plan for a vacation in Spain then visit lycafly.com .They are well known for the cheap and entertaining European City Breaks .

As the second largest city in Spain, Barcelona is a great spot for your next vacation. There are many legends that surround the city and the history of the area is very rich. Ancient churches are still there today after being created by artists and architects who have long since passed from this earth. Some of them are maintained and others are left in ruins, but they are all worth visiting during your stay in Spain.

Because Barcelona is such a cultural city, a traveler can always find something new to see and lots of locals to talk to about the best places to visit in the area. The fountains of Montjuic are a ‘don’t miss’ attraction, as they offer displays of music, light, and color in the evenings. They are romantic for couples and fascinating for children, making them a good choice for almost any traveler. You might also want to check out the Temple Del Sagrat and the rooftop viewing platform, as it can provide you with breathtaking views of the surrounding area. No matter what you enjoy, you’re sure to find something in Barcelona!

Demise of greek

Although the causes of their demise are uncertain, they were eventually invaded by the Mycenaeans from mainland Greece. This invasion took place around 1400 BC, and in conjunction with the Thera eruption, it presents a likely scenario for the final end of the Minoan civilization. According to this theory, the Minoan fleet and ports were irrevocably destroyed by colossal seismic and tidal waves. Possible climatic changes affected crops for many years, which in turn could have led to famine and social breakdown. The Mycenaean invaders wrote the final chapter of a civilization that flourished for some 1600 years.

Greece history

The History of Greece traditionally encompasses the study of the Greek people, the areas they ruled historically, and the territory now composing the modern state of Greece.

The scope of Greek habitation and rule has varied significantly through the ages, and as a consequence, the history of Greece is similarly elastic in what it includes. Each era has its own related sphere of interest.

The first (proto-) Greek-speaking tribes are generally thought to have arrived in the Greek mainland between the late 3rd and the first half of the 2nd millennium BC, where various pre-Greek peoples had already been practicing agriculture since the 7th millennium BC.

In china

The first part of the day was pretty slow because I slept in and was lazy. I walked to KFC for lunch though and it was great. Then at 3:30 I met up with a few of the girls, Elle, Jashin and Beth and we met our chinese grad student Bonnie in the lobby. Bonnie helped us find our way to the bus, to the subway and then walked us the rest of the way to the Silk Market. The Silk Market is a huge shopping center with clothes of all sorts, belts, chinese knick knacks, electronics, shoes, purses and well everything you could ever want. The only thing is that here you can bargain with the people selling stuff. Lots of the clothes and bags are knock off too. HAHA I bought a purse and some souvenirs for my family. It was so much fun to stand there are tell the people what price you were going to pay, and what price you weren't paying and like 9 times out of 10 if the seller refused the price and you walked away they would sell it to you for the price you offered. I actually had one lady and her daughter grab my arms and pull me back to their stand. However when they wouldn't let go after I told them repeatedly that I didn't want to buy a wallet from them I got really angry. I actually had to fight my way out of their booth and then pull the daughter's hands off my arm. I ended up getting some chopsticks, a purse, and lots of gifts before we left after 2 hours of Silk Market shopping. After shopping Elle, Jashin and I went to a restaurant that was just around the corner from the market and ate supper. I got sweet and sour shrimp which was AMAZING! We had a little bit of a rough time because non of the waiters knew english but we made it through ordering our meal alright. After our delicious meal and talk of life, family, friends, boys and school we got on the subway and headed home.

We had to be up early the next night for a tour so I settled in and watched a movie, The Other Boelyn Girl, and did some chatting online and then hit the hay!

Creepy story

A girl I work with told me this little story...

"Last week in one of my classes this lady gets up in the front of the class and says that she spoke to a girl about buying her statistics book. She proceeds to pull out a full 8X10 picture of this girl and asks if anyone know her. Low and behold the picture is of you! She said she had taken your picture on her cell phone and needed to find you for your book."

Yes, creepy. This lady had printed out an 8X10 picture of me to ask if anyone knows me. Hopefully no one else in that class knows who I am, that is so embarrassing!

A country weekend

I really, really enjoyed my weekend!! Started with a very relaxing drive to pick up Megan at camp north of Bandera. The original plan was to spend the night in Kerrville, then take her back to camp for another week on Sunday. I took my bike to get in a training ride for Hotter'N'Hell Hundred - more on that later!. Turned out Megan was wanting to come home for a week, then go back for the final week. It's a one week program but she loves the place and went the first two weeks.

The hotel room was already paid for and it was too late to cancel, so we decided to spend the night in Kerrville anyway. We went to see Batman - the Dark Knight and wow! What a movie!! Heath Ledger's performance was Academy award winning stuff, simply brilliant! Back to the hotel and swimming with Meggers while mom relaxed some. I had thought about riding a 71 mile route I had seen on cycletexas.com, but honestly the ride description really intimidated me - it has a HC (Beyond Category!) climb as well as a Cat 2 and a Cat 3 climb. Here is the route: Fredericksburg-Kerrville-Fredericksburg

Atlas tricks

Someone asked me recently if there is a more elegant way to zoom into an area of the Atlas than using the In and Out buttons. Of course there is! In fact, there are several ways to zoom.

First, you can hold the Shift key down while clicking the In and Out buttons to zoom in and out more quickly. You can also hold the Option key while clicking the Out button to instantly zoom out far enough to see the entire map.

If you don't want to use the buttons at all, you can hold down the Shift and Command keys while clicking any point on the map to zoom in on that location.

My favorite way to zoom in on an area is simply to drag my mouse to draw a marquee around it (a marquee is one of those flashing selection boxes) and then to double-click anywhere inside the marquee. Doing this will essentially fill the window with the area you've selected. So if you're zoomed all the way out and you drag a tiny box around some portion of Israel, you'll immediately zoom in to that area.

Another favorite Atlas trick of mine is the ability to option-drag to measure distances. When you option-drag from one point to another on the map, the distance between those points will be given in the Instant Details box. If, while doing this, you click the mouse button and drag in a different direction, the distance will continue to accrue, so that you can follow along with a route to measure its real distance. For example, if you display Paul's Second Missionary Journey and then option-drag-click-and-drag to follow each change of direction, you'll discover that he traveled more than 700 miles from Syrian Antioch to Troas. If we could only measure the distance between those points as the crow flies, we would get a very misleading distance of 585 miles.

By the way, you can also option-drag across the Timeline to measure temporal "distance." For example, you can option-drag from the beginning of David's life to the various events in his life to find out how old he was. Drag to his adultery with Bathsheba and the age you get might surprise you.

Problem with my wireless

Shortly after I got home from school, my wireless stopped connecting on my computer . . . hence the lack of blogs this summer!! I just let it sit for a while hoping my brother could fix it when he was home, but he didn't come home! I called Linksys about 2 weeks ago to have them fix it but after an hour on the phone with them, they told me to call Dell. I get on the phone and call Dell and speak with a very nice lady and she gives it her best shot for over 2 hours!!! She can't figure out the problem . . . so she transfers me! I am on the phone with another nice guy for over an hour when he finally finds the problem!! Phew, my internet works again!! I shut my computer off at night and in the morning when I went to turn it back on. . . it doesn't work again!! I let it sit for another week because I didn't want to call and talk to Dell for another 3 hours, but today, I figured it was about time!! I was only on the phone for 10 minutes and the wonderful woman got it to work!! I shut my computer off and it STILL works!!! YAY!!!

Finale shooting over just before three days

Doctor Who's executive producer Julie Gardner has revealed that the season finale was completed only three days before transmission.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Gardner said: "For 'Journey’s End', the final episode of series four, we delivered the finished programme to the BBC the Wednesday before transmission. That’s how close to the wire it is.”

She also elaborated on the pressures of making the hit science fiction show, which will not return as a full series until 2010.

"It’s been a very intense four years,” she admitted. "Making 13 episodes of Doctor Who is a year-long job. We film from July to March. In between March and July we’re in post-production."

Make the world greener

Going green: The act of making environmentally conscience choices to conserve and improve the natural environment. Therefore improving and enriching our daily lives and the lives of generations to come.

In today's society we see a new pattern forming, a new habit... and for once it is a good one. We see people everywhere "going green". What exactly does that mean? It can mean so many things to so many people, but on an individual level it means being conscience of how you impact the earth, and in turn, how your grand children's grandchildren will be impacted by what you do today.

I can see small habits forming everywhere. At the bookstore we have customers saying "Actually, I don't need a bag" or they bring in one of our cloth bags that they reuse time after time. An act such as this may seem small, but in reality the smallest acts make up the biggest changes. For example did you know that-

If everyone in the United States refused their ATM receipts, it would save a roll of paper more than two billion feet long, or enough to circle the equator fifteen times!

That is just one example of how one small act contributes immensely to the grand picture. I for one want to make what changes I can, so that when I have children, great grand children and so on, they can live on a sustainable, healthy earth.

Pocket lover

Maddox has found lately that he loves his pockets. It is amazing what he can fit in there. We are having to check them before we go anywhere and before we leave anywhere. He prefers to stuff as many of his cars in there as possible, but this time we were a little surprised what we found. We went to a restaurant over the weekend with family and we left in such a hurry, I forgot to do the pocket check. All of the sudden while were eating, he decided to pull out his treasures. This is what we found.
AA battery and a heart shaped eraser. I would love to know what this boy was thinking when he decided that he needed to take these with him. He cracks me up!
